Why do teachers get more for lunch? By Keifer Swidwa In Kenowa Hills middle school options in the snack bar lets students purchase snacks that are more sugary and flavorful, but in the teacher's lounge there is a coca cola machine, candy, pop and juice boxes. These options were never presented to students. In my opinion, students should be able to buy the same items as teachers. The coca cola machine could just be in the lunchroom or the hallway outside the lunchroom, still allowing teachers to purchase from it. The candy could be another option for the snack bar, and it could still be available in the teacher's lounge, same with the pop and juice boxes. Salt is also available in the teacher's lounge, this may not seem important but salt is not available in the cafeteria, and the meals are having less and less of it. However not many students know about the items in the teachers lounge, I think there would be more demand for these items if more students knew. We have to wait to see if anything changes.
Middle School Field Trips Should different grades get “better” field trips than others? By: Sophia James At Kenowa Hills Middle School, every grade gets to go on their annual field trip at the end of the year. Last 2018-2019 school year, sixth grade went to Michigan’s Adventures, seventh watched a Whitecaps game, and eighth grade actually went to Michigan’s Adventure instead of Craig’s Cruisers. As you could see, that wasn’t very fair for the seventh graders who did not get a choice of where they wanted to go. While the whole school left to go to an amusement park, the seventh graders were sent to watch a baseball game that most of them didn’t even watch in the rain. People like me, just stood around because baseball isn’t something that interests me. It really sucked because other grades were talking about how fun their trips were while we seventh graders had to sit in the rain.
I think that every grade should be given the option or choice to vote on where they want to go or what they want to do, so there won’t be kids like me who go on a field trip and have to stay out in the cold, rainy weather. The only good thing about that day was I had got out of school, but other ten that the day was pretty boring for me. It would have been way better if I could have voted to go somewhere else like Michigan’s Adventures.
Naked Mole Rats- Why do they exist? By Maya Haynes Off in the exotic grasslands in East Africa, 75 to 80 disgusting Naked Mole Rats live together in complex burrows dug in the ground. They are the ugliest creatures in the world and it isn’t hard to see why. It just makes you want to gag looking at these things. But if you think they aren’t all that bad, think again. They eat their own poop! The picture mole rat’s skin looks like it has been burned off and is growing back. The other ones look like rats trapped in paper bags. Naked mole rats sound disgusting, eat disgusting, and just are disgusting. So why do these things exist? Nobody knows.
The Gym System Should gym be an elective? By: Kayla Butterson “The National Association for Sport and Physical Education recommends that schools do not have dodgeball as part of the gym curriculum, but a majority of schools continue to have dodgeball because the loudest kids clamor for it, and the American Athletic Association doesn’t have any legislative authority.”
This terrifies kids. Being terrified of gym and a strong no and we want gym to be exciting and fun. Forced gym makes kids hate exercise even more. If you think about it, it is true. Most kids hate exercise because they are forced.
Gym class is so bad that children are actually skipping school because of it. They just can’t handle the idea of doing gym because of being forced. Kids are getting bullied at school because of gym. Either because they are overweight or unathletic. Also, children are getting hurt. Sometimes, other children throw balls or something like that at other children, causing distress.
“I am okay with gym still being around, but I would rather have it as an elective.” Is what one person had said. Another very active person had commented on how gym is like torture. People get hurt very easily in gym and if there was something to prevent this, I would enjoy gym much more.
I feel like gym is way too much for kids who are relaxed. I may be lazy but in the end, I just want gym to be a choice.
Pop Machine By: Violet Mead
I feel like the teachers shouldn’t have a Coke machine, if we kids can’t use it. I feel like this is unfair and not cool because the high schoolers have all these Coke machines and slushy's in the hight school. But middle school kids should have at least something fun like to buy something. I asked Kenowa Hills Social Studies teacher, Mr. Curtis about this, he was in the middle about whether or not we should have them. “I agree that kids should have something” but he agrees that kids should have something so he's in the middle of it. It should be like other schools that have Coke machines and can't even see me buy something at least something fun we can buy a drink or food off of. Going to wait for a few hours to get food well because some of us don't eat breakfast maybe or we don't have money in our bank account that would be a better offer to do. The school would get money and then the company would get money too. Some kids think we should have this. He agreed with my opinion with kids should have a Coke machine. So what do you think?
